With a Span!

 

"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand
    and marked off the heavens with a span,
enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure
    and weighed the mountains in scales
    and the hills in a balance?" Isaiah 40:12

In ancient times, Bible time, a span was from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the little finger with the fingers spread.  It usually equaled about a half cubit which was the tip of your fingers to your elbow, about 15 to 18 inches. 

The verse above states that God measured the universe (heavens) with a span. I can not fathom that. We only see a portion of the Milky Way, and we can not see the most planets without help of a telescope.  The universe is an expanse of enormous proportion. And God's hand measured it completely.  

God's hand, well not even the whole hand, just the little well made when he cups it can hold all the water we find on earth. That is awesome to think about. How great God is to create and control all the universe. 

As I thought of this verse I thought of a Skit Guys Video which will be down at the bottom of the blog. The words to the song they sing are: 

"My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty there is nothing my God cannot do for you!"

There are a lot more words to the song and it speaks of God's creation. God is such a wonderful creator. I am glad he had time to think of all the things he created, especially people. I am also glad He thought of a way to allow us to live with Him eternally, He sent is only Son to die on the cross as our substitute and raise from that death victoriously, so that we can be raised to life in Him! God is just so very awesome.
